With all the excitement around NFT (crypto) art among artists and collectors, I started my gallery at Hicetnunc and was pleasantly surprised by the sales on the first day.
Since Hicetnunc is just starting, it does not support auctions or reselling at this time. (Update: reselling at the secondary market is now active.)
Today, I minted a new piece of generative video titled “An Exciting Time for Artists” at opensea.io and put it for auction, simply because of my curiosity to see how it works.
Here it is: https://bit.ly/swfooArt001
Description of this piece:
An Exciting Time for Artists is a celebration of the bloom of NFT art in 2021. Having been working in the new media industry for almost 3 decades, swfoo (Dave Yang) is finally seeing the technology of decentralized assets and visual arts becoming mainstream.
Inspired by Dave’s background in computer mathematics and visual arts, the foundation of this video is represented by the colorful shifting mathematical Voronois, where organic visuals on top are constantly moving and changing directions in this exciting time for artists.
This one minute video was created in Lua and GLSL shader.
Launching swfooArt NFT crypto art gallery at Hic et Nunc!
In case you are not aware of Hic et Nunc (latin, meaning: Here and Now), it is getting a lot of attention from artists for good reasons. It does not rely on eco-unfriendly currencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum. It uses Tezos which is much more energy-efficient and the minting fee is minimal. The minting fee for other sites or blockchains can be a hurdle for some artists since it can be quite high. Why pay the much higher upfront cost to mint a digital item before there is guaranteed sale? There is no curation or wait list at Hic et Nunc, so artists can put up their work for sale with minimal cost. Since Hic et Nunc is just starting out, it may not be for everyone. No matter where the digital art is sold, this is an exciting time for artists!

Another generative piece inspired by Paul Klee’s New Harmony. Original artwork at 8K resolution (7680 × 4320).
Each “square” is assigned a numeric value for determining the color information:
Images are generated from my custom app with rules for visual settings. Grid size, texture, vignette, colors…etc. can all be controlled in real-time. A zap feature changes the color of a “square” so I have total control of the look and feel and not rely completely on the logic of the app. The app supports up to whatever the screen resolution is set at (the highest resolution my monitor supports is 8K).
